IV CATHETER GAUGE NEEDLE (ABBOCATH)
In the health world, we have to know about different types of IV gauge needles or what we usually call abbocath, there are 7 different gauge needles for IV lines, and they have different colors for different gauges. If we work in a health center we have to know the different gauge needles have different functions.
1. 14G, 16G, and 18G are usually used for Rapid fluid replacement, Trauma, and Rapid blood transfusion.
2. 20G & 22G are usually used for Most infusions, Neonate, Pediatric, Older adults, Routine blood transfusion
3. 24G & 26G are usually used for Most infusions, Neonate, Pediatric, Older adults, Routine blood transfusion, Neonate, or Pediatric blood transfusion. Especially for 26G (Purple Abbocath) is specially used for Neonate or Pediatric
If we want to use Abbocath, we have to know how large is the vein and what it is used for, and what medication or therapy I will give to the patient so the Abbocath can work optimally.
